ASHOK ABBOTT

Ashok is associate professor of finance at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia.   He also taught at the Graduate school of Credit and Financial Management held at Dartmouth College and Stanford University.  Professor Abbott has a very strong academic background, which is used extensively by MBVG principals.

Professor Abbott received his M.B.A. (Finance) at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (VPI&SU), Blacksburg, Virginia, in 1984, followed by a Ph.D. in finance, also at VPI&SU, in 1987.  HIs Ph.D. dissertation title was "The valuation effects of tax legislation in corporate sell-offs".

rofessor Abbott has over 20 years of experience in the valuation of businesses as a senior bank lender and as a business appraiser.  He has served as an expert witness in business valuation for 10 years.  His business valuation reports have been accepted by family law master courts in West Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.  His analysis and valuation reports have been accepted by the Internal Revenue Service in estate settlements.

Professor Abbott is a candidate member of the American Society of Appraisers.  He is also a member of the Institute of Business Appraisers.  He has published extensively in scholarly research journals and made presentations at the national and international levels.  Professor Abbott provides academic and research support to MBVG.

Dr. Abbott is now working with MBVG, developing the Abbott Index, a new method for ascertaining the discount for lack of liquidity.  MBVG will make this index available for other appraisers through this Internet site.  It is presently in peer review.  Please visit our page on
