Fred Hansen is a principal at Applied Strategic Technologies, Inc., which he co-founded in 1981. In his twenty plus years as a business consultant, Fred has worked with a wide range business enterprises, from Fortune 500 companies, such as Cisco System, Verizon, American Express, and 3M, to small and mid-sized companies. He also has experience in a wide range of industries, including tele-communications, manufacturing, healthcare, legal services, financial services, insurance, utilities, and electronics. Fred’s primary area of expertise is in helping firms formulate, execute and measure their business strategy. He is especially interested in helping firms bridge the gap between financial management and strategic management by installing a set of leading strategic indicators that integrate both financial and non-financial data.
Fred also has a background in HR/OD and is particularly skilled in the design and installation of organizational measurement systems. In 1986, Fred Hansen received the Excellence Award for Technological Innovation from the Minnesota Chapter of ASTD for his advancements in survey technology.
Fred is the author and trainer of a one-day seminar, which provides people tools, skills and insights to manage their own growth and vitality at work. He developed a self-assessment instrument - “the Growth Motive Profile” - that helps people identify the source of their intrinsic vitality and motivation in a work setting. To date, the seminar and instrument have been used by thousands of people across a wide range of organizations.
Fred Hansen brings a strong sense of purpose and commitment his work. This purpose and commitment is driven by a firm belief that the future of our world will be shaped by skillfulness with which we are able to run organizations and business institutions.
Prior to starting AST Inc., he had completed the course work, comprehensive exams and orals for a Ph.D. in Industrial Psychology at the University of Minnesota, where he was also an instructor. His graduate work at the University of Minnesota included a strong focus on psychometrics and statistics. Fred has recently returned to academia and is finishing a Ph.D. in Business Science at Capella University. He is currently conducting the research for his dissertation on business strategy.
