The Minnesota Business Valuation Group, LLC, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Olsen Thielen & Co., Ltd., a St. Paul, Minnesota regional certified public accounting firm. Olsen Thielen has approximately 130 employees, of which 19 persons are Principals. The employees consist of auditors, tax professionals, consultants, and support staff for administration, information technology, filing, etc.
Two employees are assigned to MBVG full time: they are Randy Schostag, President and a Senior Business Appraiser, and Laurel Sorensen, also a Senior Business Appraiser. Also assigned on an as-needed basis are Joel Grundmeier, Business Appraiser, and Rob Fuglie, Business Appraiser. All of these professionals acquire the necessary information, conduct analyses, and prepare reports. Schostag, as manager, does the final review and supports the processes.

Randall (Randy) Schostag has conducted business analysis, valuations, and deal structuring for more than 30 years. Schostag is the founder and President of the Minnesota Business Valuation Group. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) (Association for Investment Management and Research - AIMR), a Certified Business Appraiser (CBA) (Institute of Business Appraisers - IBA) further certified as a Master (MCBA), and an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) (American Society of Appraisers - ASA). Laurel Sorensen relocated in 2007 from Indianapolis, Indiana to the Twin Cities where she joined MBVG. Sorensen has been a practicing Certified Public Accountant since 1986. Sorensen earned a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha and a Bachelor of science degree from Case Western Reserve University. She holds the ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation) designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Sorensen has completed more than 160 valuation engagements. Her past responsibilities have included project management, financial statement analysis, creating financial models, report writing and other due diligence relating to business valuation services. Sorensen’s experience includes valuations for estates and gifts, shareholder disputes, succession planning, and mergers and acquisitions. Rob Fuglie is Business Development Manager, Accounting and Audit. Fuglie's role at Olsen Thielen is to support the organizational marketing initiatives. He does so through various channels from networking to cold call telemarketing. Fuglie works collaboratively with the strategic marketing groups to deliver high level opportunities. Joel Grundmeier, CPA, MST, CFP, is a Tax Manager with Olsen Thielen & Co., Ltd. He has 11 years of experience and specializes in trust, gift, and estate tax matters, as well as preparing valuations for business. Prior to joining the firm in 1997, Grundmeier served for 12 years as an officer in the United States Air Force.
Grundmeier is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Minnesota Society of CPAs (MNCPA), and is a Certified Financial Planner™.
